Southampton and Marseille battles with Aston VIlla for Gueye

The Senegal international was at Villa’s Bodymoor Heath training ground yesterday after the Lique 1 club accepted a £9m bid but the two higher offers from Saints and Marseille have thrown the deal into doubt.

Gueye has yet to agree personal terms with Villa and according to the Mail, the two competing clubs are looking to swoop in for a deal.

However, Gueye is likely to favour a Premier League move rather than remain in France.

Agent Mark McKay, acting for Lille, said: ‘Idrissa has a lot of interest and the pull of Marseille is big for any player in France but the lure of the Premier League should outweigh that.’

Southampton are looking for midfield reinforcements with the impending departure of Morgan Schneiderlin, who has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United.
