Balotelli misses pre-season training

Mario Balotelli missed the first day of Liverpool's pre-season training after he was granted compassionate leave following the death of his adoptive father.

The Italy striker was due back at Melwood alongside his team-mates on Monday, but he was allowed extra time off following the sad news, according to the Telegraph.

Balotelli, who grew up in Brescia, northern Italy, was in the care of foster parents from the age of three, and his adoptive father Francesco died at the weekend.
According to reports, the club still expect the former Manchester City forward to be able to join the club on their pre-season tour, which begins at the weekend.

The Reds leave England for the Far East and Australia on Sunday, where they will play four matches, against Thai All Stars, Brisbane Roar, Adelaide United, Malaysia XI.

Following that, they return to Europe to face HJK Helsinki in Finland on August 1, a week before they make their Premier League bow against Stoke on August 9
