Arteta extends Arsenal stay

Doubts had emerged over the Spaniard’s future at the Emirates Stadium following Francis Coquelin’s rise to prominence, with a move back to former club Real Sociedad rumoured to be on the cards.

But according to Spanish journalist Kike Marin, Arteta has been awarded a one-year contract extension by the club.

The 33-year-old had previously expressed his confidence that a new deal would be sorted quickly once he overcame the injury problems that plagued him last season, and it does not appear to be misplaced confidence.
But with the club starting to display a ruthless streak by releasing Abou Diaby and preparing to listen to offers for Joel Campbell, Mathieu Flamini, David Ospina and Lukas Podolski, this contract extension could be the last Arteta signs at Arsenal.
